Info for grown ups

Cuckoo Fun is a child-friendly website designed for early years and primary aged children growing up in Birmingham and the Black Country.

It is a research and development project created during the Covid-19 pandemic by Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre Company.

The website supports children’s emotional and physical wellbeing, confidence and learning with:

  • Video, sound and paper-based activities

  • 4 different imaginary worlds children can explore

  • Activities for varied language needs, learning needs and ages

  • To enjoy alone, or with grown-ups, or with other children

  • New activities will be added in the future

All activities have SYMBOLS showing the things children need to do the activity (for example: space to move around in, or a pen and paper)

Activities ask children to:

  • Watch or listen

OR

  • Join in while they watch or listen

OR

  • Take part after they watch or listen

Some activities ask children to send in their work: parents/guardians will need to fill in a quick consent form online.

The films and sounds of Cuckoo Fun are a response to the challenges of 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic: those affecting children in our communities, and those we have faced working in new, remote, and distanced ways (for example, all the performers filmed and recorded themselves at home, using their own equipment).

If you need to access this information or the consent form in a different format or language, please email hello@cloudcuckoolandtheatre.com

The imaginative worlds of Cuckoo Fun…

Extra participatory music activities will be added in all four worlds in February 2020.

Imaginarium: A chance for children to drift away to lots of different imaginary landscapes, using sensory storytelling and immersive sound effects. Calming, mindful escapism to set hearts at rest in challenging times.

Planet Me: Encourages children to discover and celebrate their unique talents, experiences and personalities, by exploring the performers’ own distinctive characters, heritages and ways of expressing themselves.

Ding Dong: A bright and characterful world of time-telling, counting, and musical participation, originally created to accompany our production of the same name in 2016-17.

Get Moving: A playful space for children with varied skills and experiences of exercise to enjoy creative movement - focusses on silliness, physical expression and tactile games to allow less confident movers to enjoy taking part.
